The Challenge this week is Abandoned Buildings and Barns, I have no photos of Barns, not sure why, I honestly cannot remember the time I actually saw one.
Anyway, moving on………..Last year (2013) we went to Canberra, ACT and visited Mount Stromlo Observatory. This is 10 years after the devastating Bush fires of 2003. The 2003 Canberra bush fires caused several deaths, nearly 500 injured, and caused severe damage to the outskirts of Canberra, Australia’s Capital City, during 18–22 January 2003. Almost 70% of the Australian Capital Territory’s (ACT) pastures, forests (pine plantations), and nature parks were severely damaged, and most of the renowned Mount Stromlo Observatory was destroyed. After burning for a week around the edges of the ACT, the fires entered the suburbs of Canberra on 18 January 2003. Over the next ten hours, four people died and more than 500 homes were destroyed or severely damaged.
These are the Photos of Mount Stromlo 10 years on………………….many of the plants have come back, they have re built new buildings, but left the original buildings as a memorial of sorts.
